Biography
I grew up in Andover, Massachusetts, as the youngest of 4 children. My first bike was a hand-me-down from my sister, which was a small, purple bike with a white basket, worn tires, a ripped seat, and “Little Miss Priss” scrawled along the top tube — just what a little fat kid needed. The neighborhood kids, and worse, my older brother taunted me to no end. I like to think that because of that bike, I learned to skid farther, jump higher, and got to be on a first-name basis with the nurses at the local E.R.
When I was 14-years old, I started working at a local bike shop. Because I was young and didn’t have working papers, the owner made my parents promise that if I put a screwdriver through my hand, they wouldn’t sue. I worked at that shop until I left to attend Northeastern University where I received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
I worked at General Electric’s aircraft engine division for some time, designing systems for fuel delivery, but needed a change. I decided to make the switch from Inconel tubing to titanium and steel and started at Seven.
I primarily ride mountain bikes. My favorite local spots are Lynn Woods and Harold Parker. I also do a lot of downhilling in the summer at either Highland Mountain in NH or Killington in VT.
When I’m not working or riding, I enjoy fly-fishing on the Farmington and Pemigewasett Rivers. I also try to go camping as often as possible as well as hiking in the White Mountains of NH. Some of my other interests include cooking, reading, urban hang gliding, scolding children, playing bluegrass cello and answering fan mail for Gary Busey.
Why I work With Seven
Because working with bikes isn't really work.
My Role at Seven
Primarily quality control, but I'll do whatever is asked of me. This can include service and repair work, final machining, shipping & receiving, and handing out mints and moist towelettes in the restroom.
Frequently Asked Questions about my job at Seven
How’d you get a job there?
My parents paid Rob V. handsomely.
I’ve got a flat tire. Can you get me a tube when you go to work?
No, you don’t understand. I don’t work at a bike shop. It’s a…oh nevermind. I’ll grab you one from home.
