Dynamic Duo
Details magazine, October 2001
Details magazine knows cool when they see it. In the October issue, Details features Seven's hot new Duo full-suspension mountain bike under Vital Tools, writing, "...the product of a conspiracy between two mountain-bike-building legends."
"When the hottest company in the cycling business hooks up with the father of the modern mountain bike, the love child they spawn is bound to be a monster. The Duo from Seven Cycles, out this month, combines company founder Rob Vandermark's visionary frame design with the mechanical magic of Rockshox creator Paul Turner, the pioneer of mountain-bike suspension.
Seven Cycles, founded in 1997, is the world's leading maker of custom frames, and Vandermark has built bikes for such road warriors as three-time Tour de France champion Greg LeMond. Turner also produces much-sought-after high-end rides, through his Maverick American firm, but his real rep is as a shock jock. His latest innovation is the Mono-Link system, which isolates the rear suspension and allows the Duo to absorb big hits without throwing the rider off his pedaling rhythm (a common problem with other systems).
At 24.5-pounds, the titanium Duo is a bantamweight that can still take a beating. And since every bike Seven makes is custom-built to an individual rider's requirements, you can rightly boast that your Duo is alone in its class. In fact, the only downside to this dream machine is its high-altitude price$5,500 (www.sevencycles.com). A steep climb to be sure, but how else do you expect to reach the top?"
