In the first major UCI Cyclocross race of the 2010-2011 season, Seven’s Mary McConneloug earned a spot on the podium and Maureen Bruno Roy took a solid 13th place. With fast and windy conditions for the elite women’s field, McConneloug claimed the holeshot and stayed with the lead group for the entire race on the dry, grassy course in Las Vegas.
“I was definitely at a disadvantage with all the Luna women working against me but I was ready to sprint for second place at the finish,” said McConneloug. “Amy went at the bottom of the hill and Georgia Gould was riding on the inside and I couldn’t get by her. There wasn’t much of a gap but that’s racing. I’m still so happy to be on the podium.”
Despite the fantastic result, Mary plans to resume mountain biking in Europe instead of continuing to race cyclocross this fall. Bruno Roy, on the other hand, is just getting started. After a third place at last weekend’s Green Mountain Cyclocross, Mo will be competing for the Planet Cup at the US Gran Prix of Cyclocross Race #1 in Madison, Wisconsin this coming weekend. Congratulations, and best of luck to both of them.
