Seven's Bike Lead Time

As of 26 September 2024

Our estimated lead time can change quickly, based on unpredictable variables. Make sure you order your bike now to lock in our current lead time.

What does "build time" mean?

  • The "build time" clock starts once you've confirmed your design and we've received your deposit: We can't provide reasonable lead time estimates until we know what we're building. The average design time from when we receive your order to when you've confirmed the design is between two and six weeks. It can take longer than this based on numerous variables, but we can help reduce that variable if you'd like.
  • Estimated: The build time is an estimate, not a promise or guarantee. If you allow for the previous and following caveats, most bikes ship within our estimated build time.

Lead Time Footnotes

  1. Design time ^ is the time from receipt of your order to when you confirm your Seven's design. This timeframe is determined by you, your retailer, and Seven. Seven doesn't have full control of this like we do with our estimated build time.
  2. Build time ^ is the time from when we receive your confirmed design to when your bike is shippable.
  3. Lead time ^ is design time plus build time.
  4. Rider-Ready Designs: ^ These are predetermined geometries so you can get your Seven faster. These framesets are handbuilt, one at a time, after you've placed your order, by the same team that builds every Seven. We offer Rider-Ready geometries for only select models at select times of year.
  1. Simple-Custom: ^ Five business days is correct. This is a special program for our most popular models. And all the most popular features and options are available through Simple-Custom. Your handbuilt Seven frameset shipped within three days. You can be riding in two weeks.
  2. Current Frame Price: ^ Seven's A-Frame Series uses equilibrium pricing. Meaning, as the lead time increases, we increase the frameset price in order to manage lead time. However, there are times when the price increases too much (bumping up against our S-Type frameset pricing) and we put the A-Frame program into hibernation. The A-Frame Program is not always available. Availability is seasonal and somewhat unpredictable. If you want one and they are available, don't delay.
  3. Complete Bike Lead Time: ^ Building complete bikes is complicated. Typically. each bike requires about 30+ parts from a dozen suppliers. Their lead times dictate what Seven can offer. Therefore, our bike lead times are estimates with the caveat that not every bike component is available 100% of the time.
  4. Suspension Bikes: ^ We offer our suspension models as complete bikes only. We do not sell frames or framesets. Our suspension design requires that we know precisely what components will be use so we can optimize the suspension system.

How does Seven have such a short build time relative to other handbuilt bike companies?

One of the true innovations Seven cycles has brought to the bike industry is the idea that you can have a bike built-to-order faster than ever before – faster in many cases than the time it takes to obtain a production bike. By harnessing the flexibility of our manufacturing system, Seven provides the highest quality, most customized rider experience possible and can offer that experience in whatever timeframe you prefer.

How Seven Defines Build Time

Build time refers to the length of time between when you've placed your deposit and confirmed your bike design and when your bike is ready to ship. We start the clock once Seven is in full control of the timeframe — which is after you've signed off on what you want Seven to build. If the clock was ticking and you are still making design decisions, Seven has no control over this, and it may incent you to rush the process. You should take your time in making bike decisions; once those decisions are made, then it's Seven's job to meet timeframe expectations.

Our Lead Time is an Estimate

When we provide a lead time, design time, or build time, it is our best estimate at the time we offer the date. There are a number of reasons we do not guarantee this date. The custom framebuilding process is complicated. The craft of building a frame from raw materials by hand is not a production process we can predict to the hour. The work takes the coordination of a dozen people and suppliers. Some custom frames are more complicated than others. Sometimes an employee takes a day off. Sometimes the humidity in the air slows the paint process.

We take the estimate we provide seriously. However, if we are a few days behind on the initial estimate we provided you weeks ago, we ask for your patience. When you do receive your one-of-a-kind handbuilt Seven, it will serve you well for years or decades.

Changes in Lead Time and Seasonality

We publish current build times on our website because seasonality and changes in demand impact the way build time is calculated. Depending on a number of factors, build times can increase or decrease. During peak times of the year, our build times increase as a function of the number of orders we receive. We make modifications to staffing and processes in order to optimize workflow and reduce build times, but often during Spring and Summer in North America, we will experience demand that exceeds the limits of our production system. We publish lead times, build times, and design times to help set expectations and also let everyone know how competitively we can deliver built-to-order products.

Special Circumstances

Regardless of the time of year, if you have an important race, trip, or other special event coming up, let us know, and we can work with you to meet your delivery needs.

The Fine Print

Lead time refers to how long it takes Seven to handcraft your frame and Seven branded components and have it ready to ship. This figure does not include:

  • Components that Seven does not make
  • Shipping time to your retailer
  • Time required for complete bike assembly

To minimize total delivery time, you can ask for expedited shipping or bike assembly. Additional charges may apply. Please contact your local Authorized Seven Retailer for details.
