U.S. Built Custom Bicycles in Titanium and Titanium-Carbon Mix

What Comes Around

The circle is a powerful symbol and a strong shape. Our friends at Circles Japan commissioned this paint scheme, dubbed, aptly enough,  “the circle,” for a run of road and cyclocross bikes we did with them. Shinya Tanaka, Circles’ owner and big-thinker, loves the idea of iterative learning and improvement, of putting back into his cycling community all the good things he takes out. We iterated this scheme in five different colourways for him.

There are a lot of great pictures of these bikes here. It is good to work with people you can call friends, people who can teach you about their cycling culture and reinforce what we all, as bike lovers, have in common. Watch this space for more collaborations with Circles and others in our extended circle of friends.

Perfect Circles

Circles is a different kind of bike shop. Nestled into a busy neighborhood in Nagoya, Japan, Circles is a multi-level celebration of cycling and cycling culture that includes a high-volume service center, a paint shop, a clothing store, a breakfast cafe, and at any given moment another business that springs from the mind of its owner, Shinya Tanaka. Shinya is a dreamer, a guy who spends as much time thinking about where cycling fits in Japanese society as he does about what bikes to stock in his shop, and we have enjoyed working with him to augment what we are doing in Japan. From his office at Circles he also runs a nationwide distribution network called SimWorks.

During a recent visit, he brought a photographer and videographer to capture what we do, so that he can share his passion for hand-made bikes with his already ardent customer base.

Here are just a few of the images they captured.

Seven at the 2014 Taipei International Cycle Show

Taipei trade show booth

We were very proud to be represented at the recent Taipei International Cycle Show by our good friends at Shenyang Bicycle International, who make the trip from the south of the island, near Tainan, to the north, for this big event on the international calendar.

Traditionally, Taipei serves as a meeting place for cycling industry insiders. It’s where the big companies meet with the factories who produce their bikes, and where component makers fete bike makers in an attempt to get them to include specific parts on their stock builds for the coming season. A lot of new products debut there, and the season’s trends begin to emerge.

A few things from the show piqued our curiosity this year. First of all, a surprising number of builders brought Ti bikes, confirmation that one of the materials we’ve been working with for decades is in something of a renaissance among riders who treasure its durability and superior ride quality. The other thing we noticed is the preponderance of drop bar bikes with disc brakes.

Thanks to William at Shenyang, we are present in Taipei each year, making the reverse trip most American bikes make. Instead of being built in Taiwan and shipped to the US, we are built here and shipped to Asia. Given the nature of the show, our partnership with Shenyang seems both supremely important and also a little subversive.

Fondo Manilla

Three fast Sevens, ready for speed

Seven is lucky to send bikes all over the globe. Our international family is one we grow and make connections with, despite culture and language barriers. Recently, our Philippine partner, George Carag from VeloCity Cartimar/DaDa Sports, sent us a series of photos from the Fondo Manilla Anniversary Ride.

The Fondo Manila Team has been hosting rides and tours throughout the Alabang, Cavite, and Tagaytay areas. The team is always searching for new and innovative ways to spread the joy of cycling to revive the camaraderie and bonding brought by the collective passion of its enthusiasts. All riders are welcome to these fully supported rides.

In early March of this year, the team commemorated its one-year anniversary by hosting a weekend of cycling on the best roads of Baguio: the Fondo Manila Baguio Series. Baguio was the chosen venue for having the highest point in the Philippine highway system, making it a befitting location to literally celebrate Fondo’s “A Higher State of Cycling.”

A group of Seven Cycles bikes were present and participated on this beautiful three day journey. Seeing the bond that this ride created between people proud to ride our bikes makes an impression on us here in snowy Watertown, MA. The places our bikes get to see is a testament to our philosophy that custom is possibility: bikes have no barriers or borders.

Sigma Sport UK’s Seven Cycles Showroom

There’s something amazing about getting pictures like this one of the Seven Cycles showroom at Sigma Sport in London. When you work with people who believe in what you do as much as you do, it comes out in the way they choose to display your bikes.

Sigma Sport has Sevens, plus a whole lot more, at the Cycle Show in Birmingham from this Friday, September 30th, through Sunday, October 2nd.

Stop in and say hello to Mick and the crew.
