Hallmarks of Seven's mixed terrain vs. gravel bikes:

Design Hallmark Mixed Terrain Bikes Gravel Bikes
Wheel & tire system Dual wheel capability:
700c x 40 mm knobby tires
AND
650b x 53 mm (27.5 x 2.1") mountain tires
700c x 43 mm knobby tires
Riding sweet spot Rough gravel roads, class 4 roads, flowy singletrack, long distance exportation riding. Near mountain bike capability. Maintained gravel roads, dirt roads, fast competition riding.
Edges of use Ultralight Bikepacking Allroads
Bike handling Confident: Slightly more stable handling for a given tire because 650b x 53 mm knobby tires require a longer wheelbase, chainstay length, and front center. Agility: Slightly quicker handling.
Gear ratios[1] About 25% lower than gravel, typically 1:1:3 for steeper climbs and rougher terrain. High end is about the same as gravel. Low gear is typically about 1:1; higher than mixed terrain.

Rider Ready: This bike is ready for you in about 3 weeks. You get everything Seven offers: Hand built in our Massachusetts workshop, 30+ years of framebuilding experience, the most experienced build team in the industry, proven designs on the race course and through fatigue testing, and much more. Available in 12 sizes and multiple fit profiles.

Order a complete bike with Shimano GRX, SRAM Rival, or Force parts, choose your options and upgrades, and we'll ship your Ready in about 3 weeks.

Are you ready? Your Seven is.

3 reasons to get Rider Ready: Faster, Farther, Forthwith

ONE: Ride Faster. Gravel and mixed terrain speed doesn't just come from being able to accelerate fast — although the Ready accelerates with the best. Sustained speed is what's important. This comes from control in the form of more precise cornering, improved traction at the edges of capability, confident descending, flow over rocks and roots, and the active use of body English to get you through it all more gracefully and scuff-free.

TWO: Ride Farther. Longer rides are better rides. At least it's true when riding Seven's handbuilt titanium frame, unique tubeset spec, optimized geometry, and more refined rider fit options. You'll find you can ride longer, over rougher terrain, and feel better at the end of the day.

THREE: Available Right Now! Order today, and you can be riding in about 3 weeks. Framesets are ready to ship in about 2 week. Faster to you. Faster under you. Let's Ride!

Where to? Your Seven Rider Ready is waiting to take you places. Are you ready?

Why is Seven's Rider Ready the ideal mixed terrain bike?

Here are a few reasons:

  • Better handling: Available in 12 sizes and 3 fit profiles, The Ready's more precise sizing provides much better rider weight distribution and center of gravity for the best handling of any stock bike.
  • Unparalleled ride feel and fun: Each of The Ready's 12 frame sizes has a size-specific tubeset with an optimal rider weight range. Rather than a single weight limit for all sizes — as performance carbon bikes seem to have — The Ready's optimal weight recommendation provides a ride feel and rider connection that has never been possible with a stock bike.
  • Terrain Versatility: We designed this mixed terrain bike to work with both 700c and 650b wheel sizes. The bike fits up to 700c x 43 mm knobby tires — for rough gravel — ane up to 650b x 53 mm knobbies — for near mountain bike performance on singletrack and technical descents.
  • A new level of control: Again, 12 frame sizes in 3 fits with 12 distinct tubeset profiles. Add to this Seven's innovative application of titanium, and you've got easier body English control than ever.
  • Complete Trust In The Equipment. Titanium for its durability and simple care. Groupset options chosen for ease of maintenance and service track records. Wheels that will roll for years. Each part chosen for durability and reputation first.
  • Toughness: Titanium can handle abuse and impacts that would crack, rip, or dent other materials. Near impervious to wear damage from grit and grime — unlike carbon. Seven's titanium 3-2.5 alloy is the best material for building the toughest bikes.
  • Better fit because The Ready comes in three distinct fit profiles: Our Standard Fit, Endurance Fit, and Aero Fit. Seven's Standard Fit, in 12 sizes, provides a riding position similar to that of popular stock bikes. Our Endurance Fit, available in 12 sizes, provides a slightly higher front and has a bit shorter reach. The Aero Fit provides a lower front end and slightly longer reach. That's 36 sizes to choose from — compared to 5 to 7 for stock bikes. We're confident you'll have a far better fit than any stock bike you've ever ridden.

Why a mixed terrain bike from Seven?

Too many reasons. Here are a few.

  • Two Wheel Size Expertise: Optimizing a bike for 700c and 650b use together is not as simple as many suppliers make it out to be. There are very few combinations of tires that can work optimally together — that don't change geometry, center or gravity, or degrade handling. In fact, most riders wouldn't like the "ideal" combinations. So, through years of experience we've determined the range of suboptimal that still riders super well. For this bike and it's mission, that combination is 700c x 40 mm (for classic gravel riding) and 650b x 53 mm (for near mountain biking terrain). Sounds simple but you won't find any stock bike with this combination that rides as well.
  • Applied Experience: Seven Evergreen gravel bikes have been ridden to multiple pro podiums at the Unbound 200. Evergreens have been under winners of the TransAtlantic Way 2,500 km gravel race. Seven's gravel bikes have proven themselves in all conditions, from the brutal 200k Rift Iceland to long-term ultralight bikepacking, and everything in between. Seven has built more mission-specific titanium gravel bikes than anyone else. We bring this knowledge base to every new bike we build. Your Seven will have the same pedigree.
  • More Framebuilding Experience: Most Sevens are built by three artisans — a framebuilder, a welder, and a framewright. On average, these three have over 40 years of framebuilding experience. There are no more experienced titanium builders on the planet. This depth helps us build better bikes.
  • More Titanium Experience: Without a doubt, titanium is the best frame material for mixed terrain bikes. Seven's founders have been building titanium bikes for 36 years, without interruption, and longer than anyone else. 30-plus years ago, Seven's founders developed the titanium tube specification that is still widely used today. If you want something built of titanium, there is no more knowledgeable team to work with.
  • Continuous Innovation: One of our founders was racing mixed terrain bikes 35 years ago — in the form of drop bar mountain bikes. We thought we were onto something. (Maybe just a couple of decades early.) We've learned continuously since those early days. Fast forward to today: Our latest work on vibration damping and big hit control can be felt in our Rider Ready designs. Seven has always pushed the bounds of what's possible on a bike. Our Rider Ready bikes have more of what's proven and none of what's not.
  • Built by riders for riders. Who built your bike? Many of our crew ride gravel and mixed terrain bikes as their primary love. We've been riding the local trails for more than three decades, since before mountain bikes became a thing. Some of us cut out teeth in BMX, some in cyclocross, and some just rode into the woods. Whatever the reason to ride, it's all good. And even better in the dirt.
  • Made in the USA. Our founding team has been building bikes in Massachusetts for more than three-and-a-half decades. There are a lot of reasons we build bikes this way. In the end, all that really matters is whether you can feel the difference in the ride. We find that most riders do.
machining-seat-stays-skip
Skip prepares a pair of seat stays for machining. Not only has he been framebuilding for more than 30 years, but he also designs, machines, and maintains nearly every framebuilding fixture we use. The result is more accurate frames that ride better.

hands-talk-skip
If these hands could talk about the frames they've built, they couldn't stop. Skip has been framebuilding for more than 30 years. His hands touch every single Seven at the first stages of our framebuilding process. We would be hard-pressed to say anyone in history has built more custom frames than Skip. The truest definition of a Master Framebuilder.

Primary Defining Attributes

Attribute Primary Focus
Riding Proficiency Riding Sweet Spots: Gravel and mixed terrain, including trails and flowy singletrack.
Performance Profile An excellent climber and descender, this bike loves tougher terrain, as the Performance Profile shows. Also, Seven's 12 sizes of Rider Ready Weight Rated tubesets mean maximized performance in your size.
Bike Handling This bike has our Neutral Gravel Handling when setup with 700c x 40 mm tires, so it works well in all gravel-centric situations. When paired with 27.5 x 2.1" mountain tires, the handling is a bit more stable and therefore well suited to more aggressive trail riding. Additionally, Seven's 12 sizes of Rider Ready Weight Rated tubesets mean ideal handling in your size.
Sizes & Fit The best-fitting stock mixed terrain bike you'll ever own. We offer this bike in three fit profiles: Standard Fit, Endurance Fit, and Aero Fit. 12 sizes each. Every size has a distinct recommended rider weight limit — not too harsh and not too soft — providing the best performance possible.
tube-selection-26-starting-options
26 sizes of titanium tube to start the process. Next, we do secondary operations on every part in each Ready tubeset. Each of the 12 sizes gets a distinct tubeset. More tailored for more performance. This is what Seven means by "size-specific."

Footnotes:

  1. "Too much bike": This model is more than you need for this type of riding. The bike rides great within these categories, but if this is your primary use, we have more appropriate models to choose from.
  2. "Sweet spot": Where this model shines. What the bike was made for. Of course, the bike can do a lot more. If one or more of these categories best describes your riding, this could be your ideal bike.
  3. "Under-biked": This model works well for this kind of riding but was not designed optimally for this use. If this category describes your primary riding, we have more appropriate models to choose from.
  4. "Not intended": Don't use the bike for this purpose. If one of these categories is your intended riding sweet spot, choose one of our models that provide an optimal riding experience.
  5. "Carry weight": The maximum recommended weight for everything aside from your stripped down bike (no racks, bottles, cages, bags, etc.) and naked body.

Performance Profile

Optimized for versatility, leaning toward harsher conditions. This mixed terrain bike shines at rougher terrain and where bike control is paramount — on challenging descents and loose surfaces.

Enhanced stiffness: Seven's straight gauge tubeset means the front end is slightly stiffer than average. This enhances some aspects of climbing speed and descending control.

Footnotes:

  1. Standard performance: The performance that Seven's typical bike in this riding category has. In general, 100% is our ideal performance. If we've decreased a percentage, it means for this specific model with these specific features, options, and upgrades, we believe the change provides a benefit. The same is true when we increase a percentage. Percentages are estimates.
  2. Sustained climbing: Long climbs, usually seated. A lighter, more lively frame can make long ascents quicker.
  3. Punchy climbs are short hills that you're probably standing while pedaling for a good portion of the climb. A stiffer tubeset can benefit this kind of climb.
  4. High-frequency vibration damping: Vibration from rough pavement, like chip seal, or any kind of small repeated defects. Titanium does a good job of damping those vibrations, and the way Seven applies the material doubles down on the damping. There is no smoother ride on chip seal than a titanium Seven.
  5. Body English is how your movement on the bike affects the bike's handling, feel, and control. The more amenable your bike is to body English, the more control you have in tight situations: twisty switchbacks, tight corners, and tricky trails.
  6. Tracking: The more the wheels stay in plane with each other, the more accurate the bike's tracking. Once the bike is going in a direction, it wants to stay in that direction. Conversely, rigid tracking can make it difficult to use body English to control the bike and make sudden direction changes.
  7. Big hit absorption: Seat stays with Flow[14] absorb big bumps and obstacles — rocks, roots, step-ups, broken pavement — better while helping maintain control in those situations. The larger the obstacle, the more benefit you feel.
  8. Tire traction comes from a number of sources. A well-designed frame that has Flow[14] can have a large influence on front and rear tire traction. More traction means more control and more speed. More Flow, more traction.
  9. Flow: This term encompasses all the positive aspects of a smoother ride. You flow over rocks, roots, broken pavement. You can use body English more actively. You have improved tire traction. Flow is one of the most important and impactful aspects of a performance gravel bike.
  10. Rider weight range: Each Rider Ready frame size has a distinct ideal rider weight range. (The geometry charts include this data.) If you are 10% above this range, we recommend checking off the +10% marker for the third performance measure (that includes smoothness). If you're 10% below the weight range, we recommend checking off the -10% marker. The frame size weight range includes what we call "carry weight." This includes everything you carry with you on a ride: hydration, phone, GPS, tools, etc.
  11. Touring & bikepacking: Stiffer seat stays mean better bike handling when loaded with gear. Generally, Seven considers the tipping point from performance riding to ultralight touring or bikepacking to be at about 13 lbs. of additional gear front & rear. Loaded touring or bikepacking is up to 45 lbs. of equipment.

Handling Scale

With 700c x 40 mm knobby tires, handling is neutral and balanced, so the bike rides well on a broad range of terrains.

With 650b x 53 mm mountain tires, handling is more confident, making it good on rougher terrain.

3 Rider Fit Profiles

We offer three distinct fit profiles in 12 sizes each. Choose your fit profile once you've chosen your parts kit.

Fit Profile Fit Description Position Variants
Standard Fit A neutral fit position for mixed terrain and gravel riding. Our most popular geometry works well for the majority of riders. Similar to the industry's common gravel bike fit. Neutral. From which all other fits are compared.
Endurance Fit Slightly more upright and shorter than our standard mixed terrain position. Better for long rides where comfort is as important as performance. This fit profile can also be better for exploring unknown territory. Compared to our Neutral Fit:
  • The front end height and handlebar position is about 3.0 cm (1.2") higher.
  • The reach from saddle to handlebar is about 1 cm (0.4") shorter.
Aero Fit Low and long. Speed above all else. This position helps you cut through the wind more easily. Best for shorter performance rides or if you are flexible. Compared to our Neutral Fit:
  • The front end height and handlebar position is about 3.0 cm (1.2") lower.
  • The reach from saddle to handlebar is about 1 cm (0.4") longer.
