Limited Edition Allroad: The Lion of Spring

Defining Allroads

The term "allroads" has a lot of meanings. In Seven's nomenclature, it's a road bike that can handle all kinds of broken pavement and dirt roads.

The Lion of Spring is a road competition-worthy bike that's optimized for 28 mm tires and fits 35s to handle the harsh conditions of early season — and whenever the road turns to dirt.

The Lion will bring you through the entire road riding season. From the worst spring weather to your fastest segment ever, the Lion will exceed your expectations for road performance and harsh weather confidence and durability.

If this kind of riding gets your heart racing, let Seven build one just for you.

Under the hood

Sure, the Lion probably looks kind of like a lot of bikes you've seen. Looks can be deceiving. Here are a few reasons, of many, that the Lion could be YOUR perfect performance road bike for all seasons:

  1. LOSO tubeset and frame kit:
    1. Stiffest drivetrain of any production titanium bike we know of. This means faster acceleration and more efficient climbing. 60% stiffer than the average titanium bike. 40% stiffer drivetrain than popular performance carbon frames.
    2. Fast in four dimensions: Acceleration, climbing, descending, and cornering. If your bike can make you incrementally faster in these four ways, you'll have some new PRs this season.
  2. Duly dual capable: Equally confident in a bunch sprint with 28 mm tires or a muddy spring day of base miles on rough roads with 35 mm rubber.
  3. Seven's NineEx Precision Frame Sizing: Provides more sizes to fit you than any stock bike ever made.
    1. Better handling. Better fit and weight distribution means more predictable and balanced handling. NineEx ensures your balance on the bike and overall control are as good as they can get.
    2. Better control and traction: Seven's application of titanium ensures improved wheel traction, which keeps the wheels in contact with the ground and thereby provides better control.
  4. Tough as an anvil. Our titanium is tougher than any carbon. Durable in a crash. Longer wear than any other material in wet, sandy, gritty conditions.
  5. Made in the United States, one at a time, by the hands of the most experienced custom titanium framebuilding team ever. Each limited edition Lion frame enjoys at least 90 years of framebuilding experience between four craftspeople.

Above are bold performance statements. Fortunately, we have the data and engineering to back them up. Visit our Engineering the Lion page for details.

What makes this an awesome road performance bike?

Even if you never put 35 mm tires on your Lion and "only" use it as a pure road bike, we think it's about the best thing out there. Here are a few reasons why:

  • Super stiff drivetrain: The stiffest of any stock titanium bike and stiffer than many carbon bikes.
  • Torsionally stiff for improved handling: The Lion Limited tubeset provides extra twisting rigidity for quick cornering and tight predictable handling.
  • Aero Fit geometry option: With our three geometry options — Aero Fit, Standard Fit, and Endurance Fit — you can get that stem as slammed as you want.
  • Crash tolerant: We've never had one of our titanium frames permanently damaged in a bike-on-bike crash (meaning not a car crash or some immovable object like a garage door). Titanium is the toughest frame material. Competitive riding is tough on equipment. Connect the dots.
  • Enve AR fork: There is no higher-performance road-centric fork that can fit up to a 38 mm tire.
  • Plenty of high-end gears: The Ultegra 50/11t high gear combination provides 120 gear inches; that's plenty for most competition situations.

Visit our Engineering the Lion page for more data and details.

What makes this an excellent allroads bike?

Here are a few things:

  • Endurance Fit option for improved handling and comfort on long rides.
  • Room for 35 mm tire on the frame and up to 38 mm tire on the Enve AR fork. Great for the worst paved roads and good for most publicly maintained dirt roads.
  • The frame and fork have mudguard mounts.
  • 1:1 low gear ratio for the wettest loosest dirt roads. And for the steepest climbs on broken pavement. Or at the end of a 200k when you're broken.
  • Shimano's Ultegra workhorse kit: Durable and wear resistant in the worst wet and gritty conditions. Fully sealed electronics and protected batteries.

Visit our Engineering the Lion page for more data and details.

How can this bike be both a road competition bike and an allroad bike?

Here are a few reasons why:

  • Seven has been building dual-purpose bikes for 25 years. The nuances of small tire diameter differences, traction changes, and the frame design changes required to maximize riding benefits can be complex and counterintuitive.
  • A performance road and a 35 mm allroad are similar in many ways. An allroads is not a full-on gravel bike. This makes the dual purpose much easier to optimize for.
  • Our NineEx Precision Fit provides optimal handling in all situations. Better weight distribution means better traction and control — with any tire size or tread.

Visit our Engineering the Lion page for more data and details.

What isn't this allroad designed to do?

This isn't a classic gravel bike. If you want a full gravel-capable machine, that usually begins with a 40 mm tire or larger. Of course, every rider is different, and every territory is different. "Gravel" means different things in different parts of the world. However, in general, the Lion of Spring is not a gravel bike. Do not order this limited edition if you're looking for a gravel bike that is also good on the road. We build those kinds of bikes all the time, but the Lion of Spring is not for that. The Lion of Spring is a road-first design.

FAQ

Can I get this as a frameset rather than a complete bike?

No. We've designed this frameset and features to work ideally with 8170 12-speed 2x Di2. However, if you'd like the features, graphics, and design of this limited edition as a frameset, talk to us about doing a custom design for you.

Is there a discount for the Rider Ready design compared to a custom Seven?

No. This limited edition is not a stock bike — there is no frameset or bike "in stock." We build this Limited for you just as we would any of our custom framesets — one at a time, by hand, by the most experienced custom framebuilding team on the planet. Additionally, we've invested hundreds of hours designing and testing the Lion of Spring. This LTD bike is worth significantly more than the price. The benefit of ordering a Rider Ready design is that, in this case, you can get it about three times faster than through our custom program. You'll be riding in spring, and that's worth a lot!

Fortunately, if cost is a concern, you can order one of our full custom bikes starting at about $7,700. Email us to learn more.

Can I get the Lion as one of Seven's 622 titanium-carbon frames rather than full titanium?

Not with this LTD project. However, contact us, and we'll design the fastest coolest carbon-titanium frameset ever for you.

Can I get the bike with SRAM parts? Can I swap out some parts?

Not really. However, contact us, and we'll show you how we can build a custom SRAM Lion.

Can I fit a 40 mm gravel tire on the Lion?

No. Not on this limited edition design. However, if you want some of the features of this LE along with some off-menu features, we build custom framesets all day long. Contact us, and we'll build you your own full custom Lion to whatever specifications you'd like.

I'm not sure some of the claims you've made are possible. Can you provide proof?

Yes. For full engineering detail, math work, and fully disclosed data, visit our Engineering the Lion page. If you believe there is an error in our math, please let us know. If you know of a product that proves one of our statements null, please let us know. However, our lead engineer has been building frames for more than 35 years. It would be difficult to find someone that has done more research, testing, and data collection across more bike-specific fields than he.

Meaning behind Lion of Spring

Lions of Spring is a term that Seven made up to describe the positive mentality for getting out in the challenging wet-cold weather of spring, winter, or anytime. We don't always want to ride in the freezing rain, but every time we do, the memories and benefits are undeniable.
